Welcome to IAM's Map Room.
NEW: The activities of the Interactive Ancient Mediterranean Project have been taken over by the Ancient World Mapping Center at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and the content of this website will eventually be incorporated into the AWMC. The Center has a growing set of on-line resources related to the Barrington Atlas of the Greek and Roman World and to other aspects of ancient geography and cartography. By visiting the AWMC web site, you can find updates to the Barrington Atlas; free, downloable maps for educational use; and articles about new discoveries. The IAM web site (this page) remains available on the web for historical reasons, but it will not be updated in the future. For all updates, please visit http://www.unc.edu/awmc.
Here in the map room, you can download maps of the ancient Mediterranean world, specially prepared by the IAM staff in cooperation with the APA's Classical Atlas Project. So long as you agree to certain basic conditions on the use and distribution of these maps, you can use them without charge in your papers, reports, articles, course packs, handouts, tests and web pages (see our Copyright and Fair Use Statement for more details).
There are two ways to select the maps you want:
Want to know where these maps came from (and where you'll soon be able to get even more maps)? See our Making the Maps section.
Please note: All of our high-resolution printable maps are distributed in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files, version 3.0. To view and/or print the PDF files, you will need the free Acrobat Reader browser plug-in from Adobe. We've used PDF to ensure that your printed maps will have smooth lettering, without jaggies, even if you don't have the fonts we use installed on your computer system. |
